We bid £8.5m for Gomis from Swansea because
Chelsea have shown interest in Valencia & Sakho, here's the massive pinch of salt, as just reported by the Moose on Talksport.

We have not bid and we will not. No interest, according to Sam.

Re: We bid £8.5m for Gomis from Swansea because
It's quite amazing how the media make a player's value increase by 8.5m in 4 months when he's done fuck all since signing with the Swans on a freebie.

“The only way they have been sounded out is through the media not through club-to-club” Sam Allardyce

Re: We bid £8.5m for Gomis from Swansea because
"I reckon this time last year people would have thought we were too good for a French second division striker and some chump from the Mexican league too."

Quite probably so , but putting that in context , not many, if any, would have seen either of them play. One in particular was a cheap deal both in fee & comparable wages. Both are young & even if they didn't work out we would likely have got near our many back/ been able to move on.

However, people have seen Gomis play when he's managed to get on as a sub & can judge & form an opinion of him as a player. He'd want/command a hefty wage as he wanted too much when we looked at him when he was available as a free agent, he's 29 & won't have any resale value & will cost £8.5 mil as reported.

All in all the comparison & point you're trying to make doesn't really stack up either.

Re: We bid £8.5m for Gomis from Swansea because
I remember Sullivan was criticised by Allardyce for giving Sakho a new contract a few months back, he didn't need one Allardyce said, maybe he did and Sullivan was correct as now he'd surely cost Chelsea or anyone else a small fortune. It would still seem a totally soulless transfer if it happened before the end of this season though.

Re: We bid £8.5m for Gomis from Swansea because
Tend to agree with AC, though that philosophy was Sullivans before, he wanted to buy cheap Johnny Foreigner and sell on for a fat profit

That's one of the reasons we need to get away from that attitude, it's too small minded, it's not all about making money quickly on players

Big/rich teams don't take punts - they buy the finished article because they can.

Re: We bid £8.5m for Gomis from Swansea because
If Chelsea bought Valencia or Sakho, particularly the latter, from us I think I'd just give up going to football. I mean what would be the point? We just buy players who if they come good move to a club with shit loads of money before we've even had them for a whole season. Where is the shame for some of these moneybags clubs? Scout your own decent players, take a risk on someone, don't just fuck up and then throw money at your mistakes. Chelsea bought Remy and before that Ba, they could have taken a punt on Sakho, they didn't, and now he's looking good with us..... pathetic.

I'd rather keep what we've got, thanks.

I thnk Enner will get better and better when given the chance to play along side Sakho, who lets face it, has been excellent this season.

Carroll is getting stronger and stronger and looks to be getting back to his best, plus he's not afraid of tracking back and putting in a shift.

Not forgetting Big Carlton. Has popped up with a few important goals this season and more than deserves his place in the squad.

Having said all that, i'd take Austin next season. Reminds me very much of Ashton.

I like Ings.

But I think you need to be strong mentally and pretty philosophical to go from being a first choice Prem striker to perhaps fourth?

Chopper Toshack 11:41 Thu Jan 29

Absolute Tosh. I've seen Stead dozens of times live and Carlton hundreds of times. Stead has half the heart and at their peaks was a far, far worse player than Cole. He had a good game on loan the other day, that's all.

Also: ""What I am talking about is the reaction to Gomis. Are we too good for him all of a sudden?"

Yes we are! He's a depleting, overpriced talent at 29.

Re: We bid £8.5m for Gomis from Swansea because
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has been speaking to the media this morning and had a couple of things to say regarding transfers.

Asked about potentially signing Darren Fletcher from Manchester United, he said: 'It is still a possibility. The move isn't dead yet but we'll see."

He also rubbished reports linking the Hammers with Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis but refused to comment on speculation linking them with Burnley's Danny Ings.
